Why choose a guided Yukon hiking tour?
Guided trips provide safety, logistics, and expertise in a landscape that is remote and demanding. We handle permits, transportation, and backcountry gear support, so you can focus on the adventure. Plus, our guides share stories, wildlife knowledge, and local insights that enrich the experience.
What’s included in the price?
We keep things simple, once you join a trip, almost everything is covered. That means transportation, camping gear, meals from breakfast to dinner (plus all the snacks in between), safety equipment, and guiding. On our vanlife trips, we throw in 1–2 restaurant dinners along the way, those ones aren’t covered. For the full breakdown, check the individual trip pages.
How many people are in a group?
We like to keep things small and personal. Most trips run with around 6–8 people, so you’re never lost in a big crowd. Smaller groups mean more flexibility, more laughs around the campfire, and a better connection to the wild (and to each other).
Do I need previous experience?
Not necessarily, but here’s the deal. Some of our trips are beginner-friendly, so you can join even if you’ve never camped before. What matters most is your fitness level and your mindset. On backpacking trips, you’ll be carrying a heavy pack and facing long days on the trail. If you’re ready to push through the tough moments with a positive attitude, you’ll do great. If not, it can get overwhelming fast. Each trip page lists the fitness level required, so check that first, and if you’re unsure, just reach out and we’ll help you find the adventure that fits you best.
What should I pack?
Don’t worry, we’ll send you a tailored packing list after you book. It’s customized for your specific trip, the season, and the conditions, so you’ll know exactly what to bring. No guesswork, no stress, ust show up ready for adventure.
What’s your cancellation & refund policy?
Life happens, we get it. Here’s how it works:
- 24 hours of booking → full refund.
- more than 3 months before your trip → full refund.
- less than 3 months before → we keep the 25% deposit.
- within 30 days of the start date → no refund.
If you need to cancel for medical reasons and can provide documentation, reach out, we’ll review it personally and see what we can do.
What if the weather gets in the way?
We’re in the North, wildfires, snowstorms, or extreme conditions can happen. If the original plan isn’t safe, we’ll do everything we can to relocate or re-plan your trip in a different area. If that’s not possible, we’ll work with you to find a fair solution. Your safety always comes first.
What’s the Squatch bus like?
Meet the Squatch Bus: our converted American school bus turned rolling basecamp. Think of it as a rustic cabin on wheels with a few modern perks. Inside you’ll find cozy bunk beds (with bedding included), each with its own USB/USB-C charging port and lamp. There’s a woodstove to keep things warm, a small washroom, and Starlink internet so you can still check in if you want to. On sunny days, climb up to the rooftop deck for epic views and a place to hang out. It’s not about luxury, it’s about character, community, and having a warm base to return to after a wild day outside.
Can you handle dietary restrictions?
Absolutely. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, no problem. Just let us know your needs on the guest form that you'll receive after your booking, and we’ll make sure you’re well fed on the trail. Our trips are active, so we put a lot of care into tasty, filling meals that keep you fueled for adventure.
What about wildlife?
This is the Yukon, so yes, we share the land with bears, moose, caribou, and more. Spotting wildlife can be one of the highlights of your trip, but safety always comes first. Our guides are trained in wildlife awareness, and we provide bear safety gear for everyone in the group. We keep our groups small, make the right choices on the trail, and respect the animals’ space, that way encounters stay safe, responsible, and unforgettable.
How do I get to Whitehorse?
Most of our trips start and finish in Whitehorse, the Yukon’s 'big' capital. The easiest way to get here is by plane. Air North, along with Air Canada and WestJet, connect Whitehorse with several Canadian cities. Getting here is already part of the adventure, seriously book that window seats, and once you land, we’ll be there to pick you up and head straight into the wild.
Isn’t the Yukon way out there and super expensive to get to?
The Yukon is remote, and that’s what makes it so special. But getting here isn’t as tricky (or as pricey) as people think. Air North, Yukon’s own airline, has special rates and connecting fares to make travel easier. Just reach out to them and they’ll tell you all about it! And the best part? On a two-hour flight you might even get a charcuterie board and warm cookies. Not bad for a ride to the wild.
Do I need a guide for hiking in the Yukon?
While it’s possible to hike on your own, the Yukon’s wilderness is vast, remote, and often without marked trails. Traveling with a certified guide adds safety, local knowledge, and access to routes that few visitors discover on their own. Our guided trips in Kluane National Park and Tombstone Territorial Park allow you to experience the backcountry fully prepared and supported.
When is the best time to hike in the Yukon?
The main hiking season in the Yukon runs from mid-June to mid-September, and each part of the season has its own highlights.
- Mid-June to early July → fresh greenery, powerful rivers from the melt, and the first wildflowers, with almost endless daylight hours.
- July to mid-August → warm and stable weather makes this the prime window for long backcountry adventures.
- Mid-August to mid-September → the tundra and alpine blaze with red and gold fall colors, mornings are crisp, bugs are gone, and trails are quieter.
On some years we may run select late-season departures into early October, offering a rawer, shoulder-season experience — but our main calendar focuses on mid-June through mid-September, the most rewarding time to hike the Yukon.
What are the best guided hikes in the Yukon?
Some of the most iconic (multi) day hikes in the Yukon are found in Kluane National Park and Tombstone Territorial Park. With our guided adventures, you can explore glacier valleys, alpine tundra, and jagged granite peaks — areas that are challenging to access without local knowledge and backcountry experience.
Is there an age restriction for our vanlife trips in the Squatch bus?
We don’t want to exclude anyone, but based on our experience, our vanlife trips are best suited for travelers aged 21–45. This age range helps keep the group energy balanced so everyone can enjoy the adventure to the fullest. If you’re outside this range but feel this is exactly your kind of trip, feel free to reach out — we’d be happy to chat.
Still have questions?
No problem, just reach out and we’ll be happy to help. Every trip is a little different, and we know planning an adventure can bring up a lot of “what ifs.” We’re here to make sure you feel ready, excited, and confident before you join us in the Yukon wild.
