The most complete Yukon hiking journey — 15 days across alpine ridges, Kluane's glacier views, Tombstone peaks, and Dawson’s gold-rush spirit.
Step into the Yukon at its wildest — 15 days of hiking, roaming, and discovering the North in full. From alpine ridges around Carcross to sweeping views of Kluane’s vast glaciers and mountains, the jagged peaks of Tombstone, and the gold-rush charm of Dawson City, this is the ultimate expedition through Yukon’s legendary landscapes.
We hike — a lot. Full-day trails up to 25 km and 1500 m of elevation, with summit scrambles, remote ridgelines, and endless alpine views. Along the way, there’s room to go further: optional rock climbing, rafting wild rivers, or plunging into icy lakes.
The Squatch Bus is our mobile basecamp — rugged, off-grid, and built for adventure. Real beds, a wood stove, hearty camp meals, and the freedom to sleep wild under northern skies. No hotels, no campgrounds, no crowds.
As we travel, we’ll also connect with First Nations communities, learning from the people whose land we journey through and gaining insight into Yukon’s living culture.
Fifteen days to push limits, share fireside stories, and find your crew. Not a tour — an expedition into the wild heart of the Yukon.
- Our vanlife adventures are best suited for adventurous travelers aged 18–45 who enjoy an active pace, shared spaces, and a social atmosphere. If you’re outside this range but feel this is exactly your kind of trip, feel free to reach out — we’d be happy to chat.

This trip is designed for active adventurers who love the outdoors and aren’t afraid to break a sweat. You don’t need to be an elite athlete, but you should feel comfortable spending full days outside, hiking on uneven terrain, and gaining elevation.
We’ll tackle daily hikes ranging from 8 to 25 km, with up to 1,500 meters of elevation gain. Trails will take us through rugged landscapes, with some steep sections, rocky footing, and even a bit of light scrambling. You’ll also get a taste of vertical movement with an intro to rock climbing session—no experience needed, just a willingness to try something new.
If you’ve got a sense of adventure, an appreciation for big views and wild places, and the energy to embrace full days in nature (and maybe get a little dirty along the way), you’ll feel right at home.

Day 0 – Check In, Settle In & Get Ready
Arrive the day before the trip officially starts; your hotel night’s on us. Check in, unwind, and get a good night’s sleep so you’re fresh and ready to kick off the adventure tomorrow.
Day 1 – Welcome to the North
Day 1 – Welcome to the North
Pickup in Whitehorse – 8:30 AM (Exact location TBC)
Your adventure kicks off in downtown Whitehorse, where we’ll gather for a welcome meeting, take care of some quick paperwork, and get to know the crew you’ll be sharing this wild ride with. There’s time to grab any last-minute supplies — snacks, gear, or a bottle of Yukon Jack if that’s your style.
Before heading into the wild, we’ll take part in a meaningful First Nations walking tour, grounding ourselves in the land we’ll be traveling through and learning about its history and cultural significance.
From there, it’s time to hit the road. We roll south toward the Carcross region, where the mountains meet the desert and the journey truly begins. Our first night is all about settling into vanlife: setting up camp, sharing a cozy dinner by the fire, and doing a gear check to prep for the days ahead.
Let the legend begin
Day 2–3 – Carcross Adventures
Day 2–3 – Carcross Adventures
Your first full days out in the wild start with a solid breakfast and boots on the trail. On Day 2, we’ll warm up with a moderate hike — shorter in distance but packed with big views and epic photo ops. It’s the perfect intro to Yukon terrain.
On Day 3, we kick it up a notch with a full-day hike featuring more elevation and tougher terrain. Expect challenging sections, ridge scrambles, and unreal alpine scenery that makes every step worth it.
Evenings are all about good food, gear reset, and fire pit hangs with the crew. Rest up — this journey’s just getting started.
Day 4 – Desert to Glaciers
Day 4 – Desert to Glaciers
Today we hit the road and head toward Kluane National Park, but not without a couple of legendary stops along the way.
First up: the Carcross Desert, often called the world’s smallest desert — a surreal patch of sand dunes surrounded by mountains. A quick stop here gives you the chance to stretch your legs and snap some wild shots.
Next, we visit Long Ago Peoples Place, an Indigenous cultural site where we’ll learn about traditional Southern Tutchone ways of life. It’s a powerful and hands-on introduction to the people who have called this land home for generations.
By late afternoon, we reach Kluane, where the mountains get bigger, the air gets colder, and the wilderness gets even wilder. We’ll set up camp, maybe brave a cold dip, and unwind with rooftop views from our bus patio. Dinner and fire to close out the day.
Day 5–7 – Deep in Kluane
Day 5–7 – Deep in Kluane
We spend three full days exploring Kluane National Park — a massive, untamed wilderness home to the largest non-polar icefields on Earth. This place is next-level wild: dramatic peaks, crashing waterfalls, and more grizzlies than people.
Each day we’ll head out for a big hike — which trail we take depends on the weather and trail conditions, but options include:
- King’s Throne (steep & stunning)
- Sheep Mountain (big views, big climbs)
- Mount Decoeli (a true alpine challenge)
- Kathleen Lake area trails (more chill, still epic)
Expect long days on the trail, glacier views, remote ridgelines, and full-body tired by the time we’re back at camp. We eat well, sleep hard, and soak it all in — this is what you came for
Day 8 – The Long Haul to Dawson
Day 8 – The Long Haul to Dawson
Time to give those legs a break — today’s all about the road. We pack up and hit the highway for the 7–8 hour drive to Dawson City.
This is a full travel day, but it’s far from boring. The views shift from glacier country to boreal forest and open tundra. It’s a chance to rest, recharge, edit some photos, or just stare out the window and take it all in.
By evening, we roll into Dawson — a legendary gold rush town frozen in time and full of character. Dirt streets, wooden boardwalks, saloons, and stories. We’ll get settled at camp, have dinner, and get ready for a fun night out.
Since tomorrow’s a free day to explore, tonight’s the perfect chance to lean into the Dawson vibe — maybe head to the famous Pit Bar, and for those who dare, take on the local rite of passage: the infamous Sour Toe Cocktail. Yes, it involves a real mummified toe. No, we’re not kidding.
Day 9 – Free Day in Dawson City
Day 9 – Free Day in Dawson City
Today’s all yours. Dawson City is packed with history, character, and weird little gems — and now’s your chance to dive in.
Wander the old wooden boardwalks, visit the Jack London or Robert Service cabins, grab a coffee at a quirky café, or check out the local museum and shops. If you're feeling active, hike up Midnight Dome for a panoramic view over town and the Yukon River.
It’s a great day to reset, explore at your own pace, and soak in the vibe of this one-of-a-kind northern town. And if last night got a little rowdy... you’ve earned the sleep-in.
Day 10–13 – Into the Tombstones
Day 10–13 – Into the Tombstones
Time to shift gears — we leave Dawson behind and hit the legendary Dempster Highway, a remote gravel road slicing through true northern wilderness. It’s not just a drive; it’s a journey through time and terrain, leading us straight into the heart of Tombstone Territorial Park.
The vibe here is wildly different from Kluane. Where Kluane is all glaciers and sharp alpine peaks, Tombstone is all about dramatic tundra, rugged black granite spires, and surreal, otherworldly landscapes. This is the Yukon’s wild crown jewel — raw, remote, and absolutely unforgettable.
We’ll be based in the park for several days, with access to incredible day hikes that push deep into the backcountry. Weather and conditions will guide our route choices, but options may include:
- Grizzly Lake Trail – iconic alpine valley hike, with sweeping views of jagged peaks
- Goldensides – a shorter trail with killer sunset views
- Hart River Viewpoint – off-the-beaten-path feel with tundra vibes
- North Klondike Trail – good for stormy days or slower pace
Expect big landscapes, real solitude, and hikes that leave you speechless. Afternoons and evenings are for refueling, fire pits, and soaking in the surreal scenery from the bus — or better yet, the rooftop patio.
These are the kind of days you’ll still be talking about years from now.
Day 14 – The Long Ride South
Day 14 – The Long Ride South
After days deep in the wild, it’s time to start making our way back. We pack up camp and begin the journey down the Dempster Highway, heading south toward Whitehorse. It’s a full day on the road — a chance to soak in the last stretches of tundra, swap stories, and let it all sink in.
But the adventure’s not quite over yet. That evening, we’ll gather for a final group dinner at a local authentic Yukon restaurant — a warm, rustic spot to celebrate everything we’ve conquered together. Good food, cold drinks, and one last night to laugh, reflect, and raise a glass to the legends of the North.

Day 15 – Farewell & Hot Springs
Day 15 – Farewell & Hot Springs
The final day of our adventure. We’ll start the morning with one last stop — the Takhini Hot Springs — to soak our tired muscles and warm up after two wild weeks in the Yukon backcountry. It’s the perfect way to relax, recover, and let it all settle in.
After the soak, we’ll head back into Whitehorse, where it’s time to say our goodbyes. Hugs, high fives, maybe a few tears — and a whole lot of memories.
You came for the wild, and you lived it. Now you leave as part of the legend
