This trip is offered in partnership with Kluane Outdoor Inspirations, a local guiding company based at Kluane Lake in Silver City and owned by a citizen of Kluane First Nation, bringing deep local knowledge and extensive experience in the Kluane region.
Journey from Whitehorse into the vast winter landscapes of the Kluane Lake region, where mountains rise sharply from frozen shoreline and silence stretches for miles.
Your day begins with a scenic drive along the Alaska Highway toward the edge of Kluane National Park and Reserve. As we leave town behind, the landscape opens up into sweeping valleys, snow-covered peaks, and the deep stillness that defines winter in the North.
After gearing up and a short introduction, we step onto the snow.
Our guided snowshoe journey takes us through quiet terrain along the Kluane Lake area. No crowds. No groomed tourist paths. Just steady movement through winter wilderness. We move at a comfortable pace, with time to take in the scale of the mountains, the light on the snow, and the feeling of being small in a very big place.
Following the hike, we gather around a fire for a one-hour cultural session led by a citizen of Kluane First Nation. This is a space for conversation, stories, perspectives, and learning about the deep relationship between people and this land.
After the fireside session, we begin the return drive to Whitehorse, arriving early evening.
This is a full winter day — active, immersive, and grounded in both landscape and culture.
Optional extended experience
Our Kluane Winter Immersion Experience builds on this day with extended cultural time, a heated cabin tucked near the lake, warm food including bannock, and a wood fired barrel sauna before the journey back to Whitehorse.

7:30 AM
Pickup from your hotel or a designated location in Whitehorse. We head west along the Alaska Highway, leaving the city behind as the road stretches toward the vast mountain ranges of the Kluane region.
8:00 AM – 10:45 AM
The drive toward Kluane Lake unfolds through wide valleys and towering peaks. The landscape grows larger and more dramatic with every kilometre. This is one of the most striking winter corridors in the Yukon. Your guide shares insight into the region, winter travel, and the scale of the terrain you’re about to explore.
10:45 AM
Arrival near Kluane Lake. Gear fitting, safety briefing, and preparation before stepping into a truly remote winter environment.
12:00 PM – 2:00 PM
Guided snowshoe journey across natural winter terrain. We move steadily through open landscape with expansive mountain views and frozen shoreline stretching in the distance. The stillness here is powerful. The scale undeniable.
2:30 PM – 3:30 PM
Cultural fireside session led by members of Kluane First Nation. After spending time on the land, we gather by the fire for stories, perspectives, and lived experience connected to this region.
3:30 PM
Departure from the Kluane Lake region.
Approximately 6:00 - 6:30 PM
Return to Whitehorse and drop off at your preferred location.

This is a full winter day in a remote Yukon setting. Proper clothing is essential for comfort and safety. Please bring:
• A windproof or waterproof winter jacket
• Insulated snow pants
• Warm hat, insulated gloves or mittens, and a neck warmer
• Non-cotton base layers made of wool or synthetic material
• An insulating mid-layer such as fleece or down
• Thermal socks
• Waterproof, insulated winter boots suitable for walking in snow
• Small backpack for personal items
• Sunglasses, sunscreen
We recommend dressing in layers so you can adjust throughout the day. You will be outdoors for extended periods in winter conditions.

Fitness & Skill level – What to expect
This experience is suitable for adventurous beginners as well as guests with prior snowshoeing or winter hiking experience.
The snowshoe portion lasts approximately two hours at a steady, comfortable pace over natural, ungroomed terrain. While no technical skills are required, participants should feel comfortable walking for up to two hours in winter conditions, including uneven or packed snow.
Please note that this is a full-day outdoor experience in a true Yukon winter environment. Guests should be prepared for cold temperatures, changing weather, and extended time outside.
Our certified guides set a manageable pace, provide instruction on snowshoe technique, and ensure the day remains safe, supportive, and rewarding for all fitness levels.
